A CEGEP TEACHER WANTS TO PRINT HOUSES

A consortium of researchers led by a teacher at the Cégep de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue, David Laliberté, Eng., wants to construct sustainable modular buildings through 3D printing.

Montreal, October 18, 2022

Habitat for Humanity Quebec unveils the new name of its stores. A major player of circular economy in the construction, renovation and decoration sectors.

Habitat for Humanity Québec has decided to give its stores a new French name in order to accentuate its growth and highlight the link to Habitat for Humanities’ mission.

"Our primary mission is to change the lives of low-income families by helping them own a home," said Shirlane Day, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity.

Changes to the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity Quebec!

We are pleased to have 3 new members on the Board of Directors. Éric Côté, President and Chief Executive Officer, Corporation des entrepreneurs généraux du Québec, Élisabeth Deschênes, President and CEO, ZA Cabinet d’architecture de marques et communication and Éric Deslauriers, Promotional Articles Advisor, Coopérative de l’Université de Sherbrooke. Their expertise will be a valuable asset to Habitat pour l'humanité Québec!

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jean-Maurice Forget, Marc Poisson and Alain Larochelle for their many years on the Board of Directors, their steadfast dedication and their involvement in growing the organization.

Habitat for Humanity Quebec welcomes Sophie Dalbec as new Director - Family and Volunteer Services

With 20 years of experience in management in various environments, ranging from the community level to multinationals, and passing through a fundraising organization, Sophie has long track record of using her skills and competencies to improve the community. Her experience as Director of AMCAL Family Services has enabled her to understand various issues concerning the vulnerability of families, to develop services and to carry out large-scale projects requiring the collaboration of multiple stakeholders. She is recognized as a professional with leadership and a strong sense of teamwork.

"The mission of Habitat for Humanity is in line with my vision whereby access to safe and decent housing is fundamental for the development of a family, its access and ability to work and study, its security and thus, for the security and cohesion of society. "

Sophie is a graduate of the University of Montreal and also holds a certificate in international business from HEC.

Local Montreal student wins $30,000 grant for Habitat for Humanity Quebec!

June 7, 2021 - Toronto, On

In a year when our homes played venue to online classrooms, boardrooms, milestones and mundane moments alike, Habitat for Humanity Canada was interested in hearing the answer to the question, what does home mean to you? Over 12,000 kids answered the call, making the 2021 annual Meaning of Home writing contest a record year in terms of number of submissions received from students in grades 4, 5 and 6 sharing a poem or short essay about what home means to them. This year’s Meaning of Home contest also raised a record of $300,000 for local Habitat for Humanity organizations home building across Canada and a total of $31,770 for Habitat for Humanity Quebec.

Shirlane Day appointed Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Quebec

The Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity Quebec is very pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Shirlane Day as Executive Director.

Shirlane Day has been the Executive Director of the Pacific Institute since 2009. This organization, recognized by the Government of Quebec as a leading partner in the fight against bullying, is dedicated to the development of programs and services in conflict prevention and resolution in order to build violence-free living environments.

Ms. Day has extensive experience in nonprofit management, having worked for over 25 years at the local, regional and national levels with nonprofits. She has worked for many years for social, human and philanthropic organizations including the United Way of the Outaouais, the United Way of Canada and the Dr. Julien Foundation. She was recently awarded the Outstanding Career in Philanthropy prize by the Association professionnelle en philanthropie (AFP) section du Québec.

Shirlane Day is very involved in her community and has also helped establish a Crime Victims’ Centre in Gatineau, Quebec. Shirlane Day holds a graduate degree in management of public organizations from the École Nationale d’Administration Publique and a master’s degree in criminology from the University of Ottawa. She has also completed training in civil and commercial mediation at the University of Sherbrooke and in coaching at the École de Coaching de Gestion.

We are very honored that she has agreed to invest with Habitat for Humanity to achieve our ambition of becoming a key player in social real estate in Quebec through sustainable volunteerism and responsible development. We want to act in a way that has a positive impact on the well-being of families and we develop projects that respond to the new imperatives of society and the environment.
