We bring communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership

Our mission at Habitat for Humanity Quebec

Habitat for Humanity Quebec responds to the urgent need to help families in Quebec with modest incomes who live in precarious housing conditions, both in terms of their health and the security of their homes.

How the program works

According to data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, 305,000 Quebec households are in dire need of housing and living in conditions that are not adequate for ensuring a stable life.

Every family that becomes a Habitat partner has the chance to own a healthy and affordable home to build a sustainable future. And they deserve this chance.

To qualify, each of these families must have a stable income sufficient to cover Habitat’s monthly mortgage payments and other expenses that accompany home ownership.

They also agree to contribute up to 500 hours of direct effort to the construction of their new homes. There is no down payment, and they receive a minimum savings of 70% of interest on mortgage loans.

They repay their mortgage each year to a maximum of 30% of their gross annual income.

Habitat for Humanity Quebec offers them an opportunity that would never be offered to them in the traditional financial system.

These families now live in dynamic neighbourhoods, in decent and healthy houses.
